About The Volendam Dutch

Volendam is a small town in the Netherlands where traditional Dutch culture is alive and well. For centuries, Volendam was known for its fishing industry, and even today, it is still possible to see fishermen working in the town's harbor. The traditional clothes worn by Volendam residents also reflect the town's nautical past. Both men and women often wear brightly colored clothing, and both sexes commonly sport wooden shoes.  The town is home to traditional Dutch architecture, windmills and canals. The main street, called the Dam, is lined with quaint shops and cafes. There is also a museum dedicated to educating about their folk culture. The town is well known for its seafood, however, it is renowned for its cheese market. Local cheese makers offer a variety of cheeses for sale, as well as other Dutch specialties such as pickled herring. The town's residents maintain many of the traditions of their ancestors, such as dress, food, music, and dance. Holidays are also celebrated in traditional ways. For example, on Christmas Eve, families gather around the Christmas tree and sing carols. New Year's Eve is marked by celebrations and fireworks.

About The Netherlands

The Netherlands is a small country located in northwestern Europe. For much of its history, it was part of the Spanish empire, but in the early 1600s, it gained independence and became a republic. The Netherlands is known for its strong merchant marine tradition and for its participation in the Dutch East India Company, which dominated world trade during the 17th century. The Netherlands also played an important role in the development of modern science and art. Renowned painters such as Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt were born in the Netherlands. In recent years, the Netherlands has become known for its progressive social policies, including its legal recognition of same-sex marriage and its tolerance of recreational drug use. Today, the Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy with a population of over 17 million people.
