ABOUT THE LIECHTENSTEIN TRADITIONAL COSTUMES ASSOCIATION

The beauty and diversity of Liechtenstein folk culture is hardly expressed in any other area more clearly than in our traditional costumes. The centuries have shaped and woven, embroidered and worked on them. The Tracht is not only the traditional dress code of a specific region, it is also an individual garment. It is made by first-class tailors in complex work.

The bodice and bonnet of women's costumes are the ornaments of the costume and used to be an expression of possession and wealth. The personal character of the costume is determined today by the fine embroidery chosen by the wearer. Tradition and expert craftsmanship make the costume something special and valuable.

During excavations in 1986 and 1987, old burial grounds of women who had been buried in traditional costume were discovered under the parish church of Mauren. Not only a large number of silver bodice hooks were found, but also the bodice itself. This proves that traditional costumes were already being worn in Moors around 1700.
